The Northwest Greater Gary Gateway Community Plan is the community’s roadmap for revitalizing and reconnecting one of Gary’s most historic and strategically located neighborhoods. Developed through the Gary Choice Neighborhoods initiative, the plan was shaped by residents, the City of Gary, the Gary Housing Authority, and a wide range of community partners working together toward a shared vision of opportunity, equity, and growth.
Rooted in the experiences and priorities of local residents, the plan outlines strategies to create strong housing options, thriving families, and vibrant, inclusive neighborhoods. It is both a blueprint for physical transformation and a commitment to improving the quality of life for everyone who calls Northwest Gary home.
The plan is organized around four integrated components that guide the path forward:
Replaces aging or distressed public and assisted housing with high-quality, mixed-income homes that reflect the identity of Gary and support long-term neighborhood stability.
